Cath's Kava Ceremony and Fiji Presentation

  • Homco 1863 East Butler Avenue Flagstaff, AZ, 86001 United States (map)

Question of the week:  Where is the farthest you have ever travelled from home?

The Fijians have a customary tradition called a Kava Ceremony in which they gather around a tanoa and share a homemade drink made of kava.  Kava is better known as the herbal supplement kava kava that many western folks use for stress relief.  It is completely natural and contains no alcohol; it is simply calming.  Cath brought back a tanoa, the coconut cups and some raw yaquna powder (the plant from which kava is derived).  She will host a kava ceremony for any of the group members that want to partake in a small taste and explain the details and purpose of the customs involved in the process.  She will also discuss some neat tidbits about the Fijian culture.
